When consider buying UV laser engraver, laser power is a critical factor.
While fiber laser engravers benefit from higher wattage to cut metal faster, what does extra power mean for UV laser machines, and how can it improve your projects?
In this review, we upgraded a 6W ComMarker Omni X UV laser engraver with the 12W upgrade kit and tested the performance in speed, depth, and capabilities.
So you can judge the difference, and make your decision smart.
Key Advantages of the 12W ComMarker Omni X
- Larger working area: 150mm × 150mm → 250mm × 250mm
- Faster engraving speed
- Deeper engraving on more challenging materials
- Ability to cut thicker materials
- High-quality 3D inner glass engraving at faster speeds

ComMarker Omni X 12W UV LASER ENGRAVER TESTS
Deep Engravings in Stone
Switching to a 250 mm lens increases the working area but reduces power density, which can weaken engraving strength. This makes the 12W module essential.
The added power restores energy concentration and ensures strong, consistent performance across the full 250 × 250 mm workspace.
After just a few minutes, engravings reached a clean depth of 1.25 mm, making it ideal for dimensional logos, textured stonework, and high-contrast relief designs that add premium value to finished products.

Wood Cutting
Thick Wood Cutting Performance
On thick Paulownia wood (9 mm) with the 250 mm lens, settings at Speed 200 mm/s, Freq 40 kHz, Pulse Width 1, 35 passes.
The 12W Omni X produced clean, sharp cuts with minimal kerf, and parts fit almost friction tight.

For harder oak wood (5 mm), 25 passes in about 20 seconds.
We get precise, tight cuts with nearly invisible kerf. This demonstrates that the 12W module is capable of structural cutting on thicker materials without compromising quality.

Thin Wood Precision
In our plywood test, two locking puzzle pieces were cut in a single job.
The ComMarker Omni X separated every contour cleanly while preserving the narrow gap between them, leaving a paper thin strip fully separated.
This highlights the 12W module’s superior energy control and sharp focus.
For businesses that require complex, tightly fitted components or precision crafts, this precision directly translates into higher quality products and greater design freedom.

Glass Engraving & Cutting
Using a regular fill pattern, letters were repeatedly engraved on 1 mm thick glass, producing crisp and clean results.
Tip: The fill pattern is an effective technique for cutting small shapes. The laser removes material directly from the defined area, creating clean and well-defined edges. This method also applies to metal cutting with fiber lasers, as demonstrated in our ComMarker 200W Titan metal cutting guide.

Focus Range Tested
The 12W Omni X UV laser engraving machine also showed a much wider usable focus range than the 6W module when engraving a wine glass at 150 mm/s, 40 kHz, and 1 ns pulse.
The engraving remained clean even when the surface height varied slightly.
In real use, this makes it easier to work on curved objects such as glass or flasks without constant refocusing.
If needed, lowering the Z axis extends the usable range even more.

Stainless Steel Engraving
Engraving multiple designs at medium speed with varying intervals produced both smooth tonal engravings and deep, durable marks.
The results are suitable for durable metal parts marking, gifts, and other professional applications.

Advanced 3D Inner Glass Engraving
Using OBJ files that include texture data, the 12W Omni X can precisely control dwell time to create high-contrast 3D inner engraving effects.
A 3D inner crystal engraving was completed in about 1.5 hours with settings XY/Z spacing 0.06, dwell time 300, frequency 40, and pulse width 16.
The result shows stunning shading levels that showcase commercial potential for personalized gifts and premium items such as family portraits.

Final Thoughts: Should You Upgrade to 12W?
The 12W ComMarker Omni X is the ideal choice for users who want maximum performance, larger working areas, tougher materials, or premium 3D glass engraving.
Upgrading power unlocks faster speeds, deeper engravings, greater material versatility, and real commercial potential.
While the 6W and 5W UV laser engraver also remain excellent for casual use, the 12W module empowers creators with more efficiently and professional-quality results that can increase both output and profit.
